Drawing upon his skills at sample selection and manipulation, ‘democracy. now’ both maps out a new narrative environment that begs further musical exploration – and offers an unflinching engagement with the overtly political that is rarely heard in music these days. More than two years in the making, this impressionistic hour-long piece draws upon received sound from forty years of war, recycling and re-contextualising audio culled from films, documentaries and video uploads into a rhythmically and atmospherically engaging trip; one that veers from the darkly humorous, to the simply dark.

Moodyman & Eamonn Doyle [Disco Edits Set]

An outspoken voice in the normally non-confrontational world of electronic dance music, Moodymann [Kenny Dixon Jr.] is committed to keeping a distinctly black imprint on techno and house.

Moodymann sound is a hybrid form of techno/house dance music arrived at via innovative use of reworked riffs, samples and grooves. While he may frustrate people with his refusal to be interviewed and insistence on reminding people of the genre's origins, the soulfulness of his output is unquestioned.

Utilizing classic soul and jazz samples, low-slung bass lines and an approach to drum programming that is diametrically opposed to the tendency to push the tempo faster and faster, he has achieved classic status thanks to gems like "Sunday Morning", "Shades of Jae", and his remix of Innerzone Orchestra's "People Make the World Go Round". Following years of 12" only releases, he compiled his best work on "Silentintroduction", one of the most celebrated albums of the late 90s.

Mark Broom - Deal Or No Deal EP

One of techno’s most diverse and prolific producers ‘Mark Broom’ is back again to demonstrate the definition of dub techno. This is a purist record through and through that unashamedly harks back to the classic Chain Reaction and Basic Channel sound, something that the world and its DJ’s crave endlessly, and rightly so. All four cuts sail forth in calm warmth and steady bass, massive reverbs and echo are worked intermittently lifting everything upwards like a strong cosy breeze. The listener is forcibly bounced up and down in a gentle fashion, (we would expect nothing less than gentlemanly behaviour from Broomer) and through proper application of decibels a full cellular body massage can result. This is essential dub for the techno journeyman out there. Not only great to listen to, but also a helping hand with your exfoliation routine.

One of Japan's most intruiging graphic artists 'Baiyon' has also been producing etheral and engaging tracks since 1998. His debut release on D1 last month sold out in its first week. The follow up EP is due out by the end of the summer.

After months of persuasion Eamonn finally agreed to open his vault of DAT’s to us, delivering a pure and truly deep techno four tracker with a clear aim for the dance floor to a thrilled Hertz Records crew. We are still of the opinion that good music does not translate well into words, so check it out! This edition will have limited availability.
