David Donohoe
First Course In Hygiene LP
Built around a deep techno backbone with a dash of technique, each of Donohoe's ten doubly-titled tracks hints at a different direction - From Hood-like minimalism of "For All Skin Types" to "Breath In" which recalls Mike Inks Gas releases. It hangs together as one absorbing and throughly whole that reveals itself further with every listen.

"The business of setting standards in followed in rare cases by repeated attempts to raise them higher again. All this and more is going on within the sleeve of David Donohoe's debut record. There's a completeness to it that some of the celebrated dance acts in Britain are clearly struggling to achieve".

Aside from encouraging us to wash behind our ears, Dubliner David Donohoe seems intent on proving, once and for all, that less is indeed more. You see, 'First Course In Hygiene' features the input of just one General Midi sequencer. Actually, it's not at all apparent: this supremely confident debut long-player see Donohoe merge a flair for delivering quirky piano lines and rubbery disjointed grooves with captivating string and bass-drenched backdrops. There is an abundance of intriguing depth, and ultimately individuality on 'First course..' to firmly warrant, nay demand, repeated investigation. Best slip on Some Gloves. 5/5
