As the roster of home grown talent on the books keeps growing, Dublin based D1 recordings continues it mission of propagating quality music, whilst unearthing a wealth of quality material and talent in its own backyard . Welcome Fatima Yamaha ! Believe it or not, this young lady has only been producing three years in total, yet comes to the fold in a manner that won’t go unnoticed. Inspired by the cultural joys and hardships of growing up "between two worlds" with a Japanese father and a Turkish mother. Fatima lays down a tight blend of electro inspired house and vice versa on this first outing. Check ‘At the Foot of Mt. Arrarat’ (A1) for a neat slice of quirky synth funk that kicks proceedings off in style with its moody break, complimented well by the verses of ‘Between Worlds’ (B1) on the flip…on this showing, yet another name to keep a watchful eye on.

Four tracks of ace uncompromising electro, laden with pure analogue funk and electro riddims. “A Girl Between Two Worlds” offers some ace dancefloor approaches to the modern electro-funk sound, but the real gem here is “What’s a Girl To Do”, a slower paced bomb with emotive keys, 808 beats and some analogue tweaks – tip!
The concoction of funk, electro and disco Fatima Yamaha has come up with is amazingly good. Solid grooves, funky melodic synths and infectuous pulsating rhythms. [Phonica / London]
