DJ BoneWhatubelieve EP
D1 Recordings mark their 32nd release with the debut appearance of long-time collaborator and friend, DJ Bone. On this four track offering, Bone continues to put forward his unearthly and futuristic approach to music production, while keeping the true essence of Detroit’s Techno Soul. Focusing on the basic funk elements, he successfully commutes his theory across a varied selection. ‘Hop’ (A1) smacks of an aggressive streak with its full percussion and bass heavy synth stabs that grind unerringly in the background. Typifying Bones ability to move the floor to a different beat, ’WhatuBelieve’ (B2) tilts to the off centre approach, combining erratic offbeat rhythms and ghostly vocals in a frenzied fusion. The slick manoeuvres of ‘Ambush’ (A2) however, roll steadily, reminiscent of Hood or Voorn to a degree; yet maintaining an identifiably distinct sound for the occasion with its quirky yet slick synth action.
