MicronostNarcissism and the Merits of Capitalism
Micronost [aka David Donohoe] serves up four tracks of obsessively tight, compressed RnB grooves built from fragmented microsounds, clipped percussion, sleazy infectious basslines and synthlicks. Awkwardly placed vacuous vocals interweave with the glossy minutely detailed rhythms producing something which simultaneously revels in and despises the empty funk of a popular music entirely based on narcissism and capitalism. We got mad love for this! :::::::::::: Boomkat review : David Donohoe's Micronost project serves up a four-course platter of digitally modified R&B, clearly owing a great deal to the cut-ups of Soundhack, Secondo, and even .snd's Tender Love. There's a liberal smattering of sliced-n-diced vocals, which the label itself describes as "awkwardly placed and vacuous". Way to sell a record guys. Still, it's actually pretty impressively well-realised stuff, even if the whole 'clickhop' Missy Elliott-meets-Mille Plateaux thing has long since been de-comissioned. |
